I finally found my calling this week, and honestly, I’ve been doing it for years without even knowing what to call it.

Dave Winer, one of my biggest supporters, used a phrase I’d never heard before: product evangelist. Someone who hypes things up, who gets genuinely excited and spreads that energy to others. For WordPress, that’s been me—telling anyone who’ll listen about what’s possible, what’s being built, what’s coming next.

And apparently, I’ve been doing this all along.

The Honest Part

My friend Matt called me out this week, and he was right. I’m mercurial. I drift in and out of the WordPress community when I get discouraged or bored. I disappear when the negativity gets too heavy or when I lose that spark.

But that callout made me realize something important: if there had been someone like me, for me—someone keeping the fire lit, making me excited, giving me that sense of belonging—I never would have left in the first place.

So here’s what I’m committing to: I want to be that person for you.

Why Now Matters

We’re standing at the edge of an AI revolution, and WordPress is right there with us. This is the most exciting time to be building on the web in years. New people are discovering WordPress every day, and they need to see what’s possible. They need someone who’s genuinely excited about what we’re all creating together.

Someone told me this week that my optimism sounds like “toxic positivity.” I get why they might think that. But here’s the thing: there’s already so much negativity in the world. I don’t need to add to it. You don’t need to add to it. What we need are people who see the potential, celebrate the wins, and keep pushing forward.

What This Actually Looks Like

I’m not entirely sure yet, and that’s okay. I’m figuring it out as I go. But here’s what I’m committing to:

• Blogging about things that genuinely excite me about WordPress and where we’re headed
• Amplifying others doing cool work — reblogging, sharing, shouting about the awesome stuff happening in our community
• Checking out new plugins and leaving real reviews for the things I think are worth your time

This isn’t about pretending everything is perfect. It’s about choosing to focus on what’s working, what’s inspiring, and what’s possible.
